Behind the Scenes

Pre-Viz for THE HOUSE
What is Pre-Viz?

All pre-viz and CGI (Computer Generated Images) found below were created by our multi-talented VFX artist,

James R. Bosley:

This is the final/cgi version of the opening credits.  This original music score is the beautiful work of L.A. composer Hans Karl. The landscape was based on a depth elevation map of Moosehead Lake (Maine) created by satellites.

After discussion between the director and VFX artist, changes were made to the sequence.  VFX designer decided to make the shots more unique from each other in the sequence and created a more interesting reflection shot of the plane as it's about to land.  This part of the process gives us the ability to make the needed shot changes while keeping things simple.  If this was done after models, textures, etc. were created and rendered it would be more time consuming. (-and more expensive) This is our second stage of previsualization.

This sequence is for the opening credits where a floatplane lands on Moosehead Lake.  Obviously, anyone who has been to Moosehead Lake, Maine knows that the lake is much bigger than the one in this scene.  The lake here is for demostration purposes only, so the artists can design the camera layout.  James R. Bosley, the VFX artist is going to base the final look of the landscape on maps, video footage and other refrence material to get the look exactly right.  This is our first stage of previsualization.

Pre-Viz  or Previsualization:
Ever seen 2012 or another film with CGI elements in it?  The first stage of a scene with CGI is called "Pre-Viz", short for previsualization.  A CG artists designs a simple look of what the scene will look like with basic models and focusing on the camera moves.  The point is for the artist and director to layout how the scene will look and what the camera will be doing in the scene.
